RE: MD Regulatory Changes Affecting Costs For Massage Training
MSGID:   240903-2

The state of Maryland has proposed regulatory changes which will add to your costs if you decide to offer massage training at your NACCAS-accredited school.

On September 19, 2003 a proposal was published in the Maryland Register to limit licenses to practice as massage professionals to graduates of programs approved or accredited by the Commission on Massage Training Accreditation.

If the proposed change is not adopted, you can have your massage training programs approved or accredited by any agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. That means NACCAS. We encourage you to submit your comments on this proposal before October 20, 2003 to Ms. Michele Phinney, Regulations Coordinator, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, 201 Preston Street, Room 521, Baltimore, MD 21201.

To read the proposal, go to www.dsd.state.md.us,
click on MD Register, search for “massage”. The language in brackets ([brackets]) will be deleted if the proposal is adopted.

Sincerely,

Mary E. Bird
NACCAS
